The homeowners of this vibrant Northcote (Victoria, Australia) garden wanted to switch things up and replace their main lawn area with an outdoor dining space for entertaining.
The decision to remove a key area of grass would mean they’d lose some of the greenery in the existing garden, but this has been more than made up for with the plentiful planting of wild and colourful plant life across the rest of the space.
Fran Hale from Peachy Green has developed a garden that is tailored to both the site and client, and one that boasts her unique garden design style while also working within the homeowners’ desires.
The Brief
The key task was to redesign this property’s gardens as part of a renovation project for the indoor kitchen and living areas.
The homeowners sought new designs for both the indoor and outdoor spaces that built upon the green hues that already featured in the existing areas of the property. The design was to extend this palette into the garden and to weave together the two areas seamlessly.
Put simply, the goal for the design of the property as a whole was to forge and improve its connection to the outdoors, which the homeowners felt was previously lacking.
The Transformation
Positioned on either side of the glass doors of the new extension, a garden wall hosts climbing plants that promise to evolve gracefully over time. The wall effortlessly bridges the indoor and outdoor spaces, and whether you are entering the garden or stepping back inside, a harmonious transition is guaranteed.
The gardens now boast a delightful dining terrace nestled in the backyard. This space is purposefully softened by a blend of feathery grasses and foliage.
The design incorporates both native and edible flora into the design, along with vegetable plots that are planted in recycled brick enclosures. The garden offers the perfect space for the homeowners to indulge in their passion for gardening.
Completing the picture, the integrated raised platform provides a picturesque spot for basking in the Victorian sun and taking in the beauty of this natural sanctuary.
The Result
Once a historic Victorian residence, this property has blossomed into a modern oasis, where nature flourishes both indoors and out. Together, Peachy Green and Vogue Grange (landscape construction) have expertly created a haven for their nature-enthused clients.
