Our Philosophy

Sage started from a passion for green spaces and an interest in how a garden can be an extension of the home. A love of outdoor “rooms” and extra spaces to dwell, gather, play and create — gardens as a work of art, and a means for creativity.

We write to foster a reweaving of the planet and its people. Including stories on a range of themes: art and science; people; eating and making; exploring, living and growing.

A creative partnership

Sage is a vibrant, multi-platform brand encompassing a printed journal (launching 2025), creative studio, website, social channels and live events. It’s a space where beautiful ideas take root and grow.

We partner with brands to bring their stories to life — in a way that’s authentic, considered and visually compelling.

From editorial features and social content to full brand activations, our work is grounded in both creative thinking and strategy.

Whether you’re launching something new or looking for a more meaningful way to connect with your audience, we’re here to help bring it to life.

Sage Journal in print — coming 2025!

Sage Journal is for the garden curious.

More than just a magazine, each volume is a curated companion for gardeners, nature lovers and creatives. As an annual publication, it’s designed to be timeless — something to collect, revisit and share for years to come.

Within its pages, we explore the intersection of gardening, art and storytelling — embracing the idea that working with nature is an art form in itself.

Through thoughtful writing, evocative photography and expert knowledge, Sage Journal is the trusted voice in the gardening and design space.

If you’d like to be part of the first edition, we’d love to hear from you — [email protected]

What we offer

We partner with brands to tell stories that are thoughtful, impactful and deeply aligned. Below are some of the ways we work together:

We create editorial-style stories in partnership with brands — authentic, informative and designed to seamlessly fit within our site and publication. There are also opportunities to sponsor popular sections and series for ongoing and elevated exposure.

One-off or seasonal content partnerships that place your brand within compelling posts, reaching our ever-growing, highly engaged audience.

Reach our audience through beautifully designed newsletters — banner ad placements, spotlights or full-featured promotions.

Annual placement in our curated brand directory, both online and in the print journal — a trusted guide to the brands and products we love.

Bespoke events, workshops and gatherings — created in collaboration with brands, bringing community and creativity together.

Sage Journal, the publication, will be an annual volume with timeless stories, made to be collected, re-read and shared with friends. Advertising opportunities are very limited and will be thoughtfully integrated. We are launching in 2025, so watch this space!

A GLIMPSE AT CAMPAIGNS WE’VE CREATED

The Palette of Plants

Resene Paints

In this ongoing collaboration between Sage Journal and Resene we explore how colour transforms outdoor spaces.

Each story, published bi-monthly, features a curated, illustrated colour palette that draws inspiration from the garden, its surroundings, and the personality of the gardeners who tend it. Just as the colours inside a home reflect its occupants, the shades chosen for a garden can reveal the gardener’s unique creativity.

We also include a practical Resene tip — inspiring readers to see their own garden as a living work of art, shaped by both painted and planted colours throughout.

— Bi-monthly feature articles. Includes location scouting, photography, writing, design, and execution online, social media & eDM.

Gardening is Boring

Boring® Oat Milk

A spring campaign, where Sage Journal teamed up with Boring® Oat Milk for a series of spring gardening tips that are essential for growing a flourishing garden.

The campaign was designed to celebrate the beauty in the basics — those humdrum tasks that make all the difference in the garden.

It centred around one of Boring® Oat Milk’s key brand pillars — that one person’s boring may be another person’s most interesting.

— Full social media activation: weekly over three months. Including photography, copywriting, design, social media campaign development and delivery, three articles & eDM banner ads.

The Picky Gardener

Picky Juices & Smoothies

Sage Journal teamed up with Picky to deliver a 12-week social media series of fruit tree and edible gardening tips.

Aligned to Picky’s juice and smoothie ingredients, and their considered and conscience brand values, we focussed on juicy tips about fruit trees, berries, herbs and leafy things. Just solid, seasonal advice — backed by a team that’s (very) picky about the details.

— Full social media activation: weekly posts across 12 weeks. Including creative direction, photography, copywriting, design, social media campaign development and delivery, and three articles.

Autumn Pest Campaign

Goodnature

Born out in the New Zealand bush, Goodnature believe less pests equals more nature.

Through autumn, we developed a campaign with four written articles to highlight the key season for pests. This included one very practical guide for getting rid of rodents in the garden, followed by three beautifully shot stories of real gardeners in their gardens, and the seasonal challenges they face.

— Four feature articles, including campaign development and management, photography, writing, design, social media and a fully branded eDM.

This intimate, sold-out dinner brought together gardeners, new and old, to gather, celebrate and support an incredible community garden project.

The event was supported by brand sponsors who supplied wine and other beverages.
